Plumbing Systems
Plumbing systems include both hot and cold water supply and the drainage system; they are two main, interconnected subsystems of a property's total water management. The supply subsystem delivers clean water for use, while the drainage system removes wastewater and waste materials.
Water supply system
-
Hot and cold water: This subsystem delivers fresh water to all fixtures in a building.
-
Cold water: Delivered directly from the mains or a storage tank and sent to all outlets for drinking, washing, etc.
-
Hot water: Cold water is heated and then sent to the appropriate fixtures, such as faucets and showers.
Drainage system
-
This subsystem consists of pipes that carry wastewater (from sinks, toilets, and showers) and other waste materials away from the building to the sewer or septic system.
-
A crucial part of the drainage system, the vent system allows air into the pipes to ensure proper flow and to prevent sewage gases from backing up into the building.
